Anise Hyssop
The anise hyssop develops its first set of leaves in the early springtime, having the pleasing
and nostalgic aroma of licorice that might have been stored in grandma's candy jar. By
the time mid-summer arrives, honey bees are attracted to the same aroma on the profuse
lavender-blue flower heads that extend like many paintbrushes ready to be dipped. Slowly
the flowers change to blue-gray so that eventually by winter, a strong and hardened plant
remains as a reminder of its previous glory.
Botanists have struggled with identifying the specific hyssop plant that is mentioned in the Bible ...
