April is a month of new beginnings – the Bible says "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" (2 Cor 5:17 NIV). To many Christians, this time is representative of the new life we have in Jesus; to others, spring is a time for love.

The first dash of color in the Gethsemane Prayer Garden each spring are the multi-colored primroses, happily announcing that spring is here. Soon after that, yellow and white daffodils burst out, joyously expressing the new beginning, for old man winter is gone. Because of the masses of daffodils, the garden takes on a predominantly yellow theme. Towards the end of the month, the dark blue grape hyacinth start opening, and in some years, the brilliant yellow marsh marigolds open near the stream. as well as towards the end of April.

April is also a time of preparation. Last year's plant growth is cut down at this time and the many leaves, now dead from the previous autumn and hiding under every stopping place, need to be cleaned up. We leave the benches out all winter, so if you plan to visit, enjoy the garden and this very special place of fresh hope and contentment.
