A Topical Treasury of Proverbs

A Topical Treasury of Proverbs

“I have been so blessed by my daily readings from this book. Subjects chosen are clear and contemporary and give the reader a comprehensive teaching on each subject; includes a daily reading plan of Proverbs by subject and a verse listing of every topic in each verse. The book is an excellent contribution to an understanding of the book of Proverbs. I am amazed at the depth of research that has been put into this book – the time spent on each verse to classify subjects is truly remarkable.”

Home: Book overview
If you enjoy the life-directing truths of Proverbs, you will appreciate how A Topical Treasury of Proverbs augments your reading of Proverbs, making your time more efficient, effective, and meaningful. By organizing the passages of Proverbs into 100 topics and then adding emphasis to each verse, you will see how the meaning of the verses becomes more pronounced. When these verses are seen together, your mind will not be distracted with other unrelated topics. But even more importantly, you will see God's own heart more clearly as He reveals His pointed directions for your life and the lives of others.

For example, there are 19 verses that are identified with "Laziness", but the words 'lazy' or 'laziness' appear in only three of those verses. Some of the other words that are associated with laziness from Proverbs include 'sluggard', 'slack', and 'sleep'. When all of these verses are seen together, you will see God's full mandate against laziness.

You are invited to see how the topic Good Counsel, shown below and continued on the next pages, illustrates this richer understanding of God's truths. A Topical Treasury of Proverbs is based on the New English Translation (NET) Bible. The verses have not been altered, but some have been combined to emphasize a point. You may also see the list of the 100 Topics.

Welcome
Tom Clarke Hi, my name is Tom Clarke and I wish I could meet you in person. I am an author / publisher, the Caretaker of the Gethsemane Prayer Garden, and a computer software developer. I spent four years and thousands of man-hours writing this book, and many people tell me that the results show that effort. One insight that came out of this analysis is an understanding of why Solomon fell during the later years of his life. Read about this in my blog entry entitled: The Fall of Solomon

92 Good Counsel
Wisdom provided in the form of advice, instruction and counsel.
Ref. Scripture
1:1, 2 The Proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: To learn wisdom and moral instruction, and to discern wise counsel.
1:8, 9 Listen, my child, to the instruction from your father, and do not forsake the teaching from your mother. For they will be like an elegant garland on your head, and like pendants around your neck.
1:20, 23, 29-30 Wisdom calls out in the street: … "If only you will respond to my rebuke, then I will pour out my thoughts to you and I will make my words known to you. … Because they hated moral knowledge, and did not choose to fear the Lord, they did not comply with my advice, they spurned all my rebuke."
